Brain Injury Recovery: Navigating the MIND Fields
Saturday, September 27, 2008
Blue Ridge Community College
Weyers Cave, VA
Mark your calendars for Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery’s upcoming conference! Brain Injury Recovery: Navigating the MIND Fields is an educational conference for survivors, caregivers and professionals. The one-day conference is scheduled for Saturday, September 27, 2008 and will be held at Blue Ridge Community College’s Plecker Center.
The purpose of this conference is to help provide survivors and their caregivers with information about brain injury, services available to them in our community to assist them on their road to recovery, and education about how to advocate for appropriate services. So many times, a family is left to navigate the complex rehabilitation and social service systems alone while trying to take care of a loved one. Adequate and timely information early on in the process is critical to helping an individual return to their lives after an injury. And services are available to assist individuals even years after an injury. This conference will provide the venue for information dissemination, networking and advocacy that is so greatly needed.
Tentative conference session topics include:
Sponsorship and Exhibitor opportunities are available. For more information, please contact Michelle Witt, Executive Director, at michelle@c2bir.org or call 540.568.8923.

Thank you to the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services and the AHC Community Health Foundation for helping make this event possible.
Crossroads to Brain Injury Recovery is a community-based case management program for survivors of brain injury. Case management is a comprehensive approach to brain injury recovery that includes all aspects of a survivor’s life – from assistance with applying for services to re-learning daily living skills and returning to school or work. Recovery does not end when an individual is released from the hospital – and our goal is to help survivors get back to their lives once they come home.

Virginians with traumatic brain injuries lack adequate residential facilities, access to therapy, and other services, a report found. Returning war veterans with traumatic brain injuries are likely to further tax the system, too.
